Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
By investing in me, you are financially helping me to upkeep my equipment, data storage units, editing applications and my livelihood. My session pricing includes the hours capturing, hours editing, the cost of a flash drive (if applicable) and the cost of hiring a second photographer (if applicable). What is not included is a travel fee. I charge government rate (58 cents) per mile when I travel to a venue further than 60 miles from my current location.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
When I encounter a new (or potentially new) client, I love to meet in coffee or chat over the phone! I believe communication is key to a good relationship and a successful business. My number goal is to satisfy the client through the appreciation of my work. By communicating the job and interests initially, it begins a strong relationship and makes the job, day of, editing process and return of the images that much smoother.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I have a bachelor's degree in Photojournalism with a concentration in Digital Media and Peace Studies. I traveled to the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics to capture the culture and life of Brazil. In 2018-19, I filmed a short documentary which has gone on to win national awards. I have also attended a variety of conferences and workshops hosted by the National Press Photographer's Association across the nation.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I began photography after I changed majors my first year of university. I have always owned a camera and loved documenting my vacations and family, but after changing majors I discovered how a single click of the shutter can change a life and tell a story. Ever since that day, my goal in life has been to document and capture the lives of anyone who has a story to be told (which is everyone). Any way I am able to help, I will.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
In the past, I have worked with universities and colleges, families, high school and college seniors, wedding clients, non-profits and more.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
I recently documented a family as they endured a year-long trauma. The family wanted me to follow them to capture the moments the family spent together, in the house and out. This was a life changing project, but helped me to realize that my goal of documenting lives was permanent.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Make sure you like their work! Don't settle for a price and don't go with a photographer/videographer who has a higher price because you think they'll be better. Simply look at their work/portfolio. If you enjoy it, reach out to them! Then chat with the person. If you think you'd get along with them, yay hire them! If there's any gut feeling they are not "your fit," keep looking. Photographs are so personal, that the photographer should be someone you get along with and like.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Ask about the photographer's style. Ask how they go about starting and ending their days working with clients as well as how they get those "perfect candid smiles and laughter." Everyone has different techniques and ways of capturing their images, so you should make sure their style would fit you and your family!
